Privacy policy

What we collect

Only what we need to serve you:

• Your name, email and phone number when you place an order.
• For class students: street address, date of birth and sex, which we need for your certificate of completion and class records.
• For FFL transfers: the buyer's name, a description of the firearm and the seller's name.
• For private lessons and transfer pickups: the time you book and how many people are coming.
• For shop orders: your date of birth and home state (to check the legal age and where a firearm can go), the dealer (FFL) you choose and, for accessories, your shipping address.
• If you sign up for our mailing list: your email and, if you give it, your name.
• If you join the Blue Cord Club: your email, which is how we recognize you as a member at checkout.
• For dealers shipping a firearm to us: the copy of your FFL and the contact details you upload, which only our staff can open.
• If you type your email at checkout and don't finish: your cart, name and email, which we keep for up to 90 days.
• If you ask us to tell you when a shop item is back in stock: your email and the item, kept until we email you or for up to 90 days.

Your card details

Card payments are handled by Authorize.net. Your card number goes straight from your browser to Authorize.net and never reaches our server. We only see the card type and last four digits, for your receipt and for refunds.

How we use it

To run your booking or order and keep our records:

• Confirm your order, send receipts and contact you about your class, lesson or transfer.
• Prepare certificates of completion and keep the class and transfer records the law requires.
• Send class dates and news to our mailing list and to past customers. Every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link, and once you unsubscribe we don't send them to you again. Receipts and messages about your own order still come.
• If you leave checkout without finishing, email you up to two reminders about your cart, with a link that refills it. They stop once you order, and the unsubscribe link in them stops these and our other marketing emails.
• If you ask to hear when a shop item is back in stock, email you once when it is.

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share only what a service needs to do its job for us:

• Authorize.net, to take card payments and refunds.
• Google Calendar, our own business calendar, which shows the name and time of each lesson, class and pickup.
• The company that hosts this website and the service that sends our emails.
• For shop orders: the distributor and the carrier that deliver your order, which get the delivery address, and the dealer (FFL) you choose, which gets your name and order so it can complete the transfer.
• Our off-site backup storage. Backups are encrypted before they leave our server, so the storage company can't read them.
• Government agencies, when the law requires it. Firearm transfers include the federal and state background check done at pickup.

Cookies and tracking

This site has no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics. Your cart, the items you save for later, the products you viewed recently and your answer to “Are you 18 or older?” (for 30 days) are saved in your own browser so they're still there when you come back. If you sign in to an account, a cookie keeps you signed in for 30 days on that device until you sign out. Our staff sign-in uses a cookie that only matters to staff.

An account is optional. It holds your email and any checkout details you choose to save (name, phone, address and dealer), and shows the orders and bookings placed with that email. There's no password: we email you a sign-in link. We never keep card numbers.

How long we keep it and how we protect it

We keep order, class and transfer records as long as we need them for the business, taxes and the law. The site runs over a secure (https) connection, and backups are encrypted.

This site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Your choices

Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email to stop them. To see, correct or remove the information we hold about you, contact us. We may need to keep records the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date.
